Kitimat, BC – November 7th, 2021
One of the most famous natural gas companies is expanding its property. Chevron Canada is taking their business west to Kitimat BC, home to the Gitga’at First Nations tribe. The Gitga’at First Nations tribe is the first-ever indigenous tribe to allow a gas company to break ground on their land. Chevron has bought a part of the Gitga’at’s land and plans to build the most eco-friendly exporting plant to date, to export their new liquefied natural gas. The natural gas will be transported from Summit Lake BC, through the 500- kilometer pipeline to their brand new plant in Kitimat BC, where it will be transformed into a more eco-friendly liquefied natural gas. Chevron has been working closely with the Gitga’at tribe in an effort to ensure they are as environmentally friendly as possible.
The head of Chevron Canada, John Doe, has been working with Chevron for the last 30 years. Doe has been working closely with the Gitga’at tribe on this new exporting plant for the last 12 years. His main concern for the last 12 years has been the environment, he states “I’ve been working so hard on how this plant can be the most eco-friendly plant ever. There are tons of wildlife that I have been concerned about, including the sacred whales and wolves, but the Gitga’at peoples have been the most helpful in raising environmental concerns and assisting with solutions. I couldn’t be more thankful to them for all their help and support.”
Chevron is one of Canadas largest natural gas companies and they continue to expand their company. With the overwhelming support and help from the Gitga’at First Nations tribe, the newest, most innovative exporting plant is soon to be up and running. The new plant will house up to 18 million tonnes of natural gas and run strictly on renewable, clean hydroelectricity.
The Gitga’at First Nations tribe has occupied the land in Kitimat BC for the last 1000 years. With their support and assistance, Chevron will be able to produce more natural gas than ever and be more environmentally friendly than we’ve ever seen before.
