ABOUT CHEVRON CANADA – KITIMAT PROJECT
- Obtained a 20 – year liquified natural gas (LFG) export license to produce 10 – million-metric-tonnes or liquified natural gas per year
- Received support from Gitga’at First Nations tribe
- Promises to be the most eco-friendly LFG plant in history
- Plans to offer the Gitga’at First Nations peoples jobs and onsite training
GITGA’AT FIRST NATIONS TRIBE
- Occupied the land for the last 1000 years
- Signed an extensive agreement that holds Chevron Canada responsible for any damages to their land
- Will receive 30 million dollars across the span of 20 years
- The first agreement Indigenous peoples of Canada have signed
HOW THE KITIMAT PROJECT WILL STAY ENVIROMENTALLY FRIENDLY
- Signed an agreement with Environment Canada that holds Chevron Canada accountable for any and all environmental effects they may cause
- Chevron Canada acknowledges the importance of wildlife to the Indigenous culture and plans to safely relocate any wildlife
- Will assist with any cost affected by the relocation of wildlife
